Yesterday we caught a ferry from Sifnos to Athens. Unfortunately, the rain followed us from Sifnos to Athens. We woke up yet again to some seriously stormy weather. Despite the weather, this was one of our only days in Athens for site seeing, so we figured we could handle a little adverse weather. We are from Seattle after all. On our way to the Acropolis we picked up a few umbrellas for 3 euros and headed to the Acropolis. (We would have spent the day seeing the museums, but as it was a Monday, none were open) Despite the crazy weather there were still a ton of people site-seeing. We managed to get a few pictures of the Parthenon and such before our umbrellas had turned inside out or sent us sailing away.
Next we walked through the Roman Agora, admiring churches and more ancient ruins. By the time we had finished here we were ready for a coffee break/warm up break so we headed to the local Starbucks to dry off and warm up.
After our quick break we headed back to the hotel to change because no amount of sitting in Starbucks would actually dry us off. From there we decided to walk around the city more. We walked to the capital building, around The Plaka, through the national garden, and visited several churches. After spending the day in the cold/rain we decided to call it a night early. (I am starting to see a theme here…)
