More Delphi and A VERY Long Drive

Today we woke up early and hiked back to Ancient Delphi to tour the lower portion on our own.  The lower part of Delphi was home to the Gymnasium and the Temple to Athena because of course every ancient city needed at least one temple to two different gods.  I am pretty sure this was some sort of Feng Shui in Ancient Greece.

After our morning outing we headed back to our hotel where we joined up with another tour group and headed up to Kalambaka.  Along the way we stopped briefly at a memorial to the Battle of Thermopylae which was a battle between Sparta and the Persian Empire.  The movie 300 is based on this battle (although don’t ask anyone Greek about it because none of them were too fond of the movie).

We arrived rather late at night, had dinner and explored the town.  Since we had arrived so late, there wasn’t much to see.  I am really excited for tomorrow and can’t wait to tour some ancient Greek Orthodox Monasteries located on HUGE rock pillars!
